Some charts appear to be rotated-- the text isn't straight on the screen.

Created: 12/12/2003

TOPIC

Chart Up, North Up, and Course Up

DISCUSSION

It sounds as though you have set your Chart-Screen Orientation to North Up. This means that the northern area of the chart is always positioned at the top of the screen. However, the paper originals of some charts, especially river charts, may not be printed according to the same North Up orientation. The image will be presented at a different orientation in order to fit it efficiently on the sheet of paper. Therefore, any text on the chart will appear off-center when the chart is rotated to North Up.

You may wish to use Chart Up orientation when viewing this type of chart. To change your Chart-Screen Orientation setting, touch the Link button and choose either North Up, Chart Up, or Course Up. (Course Up means that your vessel will always be shown pointing towards the top of the screen, while the chart rotates as necessary "underneath" your vessel.)
