These steps offer two different methods for installing and using NDI charts with Maptech marine software
Recently Nautical Data International (NDI) released the 2002 version of their chart data discs. NDI has made some changes to these 2002 CD's, the most substantial one being where the chart data is stored and where the data gets installed to.
Below are two different sets of instructions to set Maptech marine navigational software up for use with the new NDI 2002 chart data CD's.
Follow the first set of instructions to set Maptech up to read the NDI chart data from the computers hard drive. Follow the second set of instructions if you wish to read the NDI chart data directly from the CD-ROM's.
Method #1: This will set Maptech up to read the chart data from the computers hard drive.
Insert the NDI 2002 chart CD and follow the installation prompts.
Once the install completes, open Offshore/Chart Navigator, click on Charts, then SetUp Charts, then on the Advanced Chart Management tab.
Locate and click on the Browse button.
Double click on the folder for the C:\ drive.
When the folders open below that, double click on the Program Files folder. When the folders open below that, locate and double click on the Digital Ocean folder, below that, locate and double click on the folder of the CD title* [*Note: this portion (CD Title) will change to correspond with the regional coverage they are using, for example, Lake Huron CD is NW02, Newfoundland West is ATLD08, these regional codes are on the CD case, as well as on the CD].
Finally, double click on the CA_CHTS folder
Hit Rebuild under the Chartlist section
Method #2: This will set Maptech up to read the chart data directly from the NDI CD-ROM's.
Note: If the NDI CD Setup was already run, the charts will be on the hard drive, we recommend removing these charts to free up hard drive space if the charts are going to be read from the CD-ROM, use these steps to remove the charts:
Insert the NDI coverage CD-ROM
When the Auto-Run of the CD starts it will open the Program Maintenance screen
Select Remove, then Next
Click on the Remove button, on the next screen click Finish.
Once the chart data has been removed from the hard drive: Insert the NDI CD and choose CANCEL when the install/registration screen pops up.
Next start Offshore Navigator.
From Offshore Navigator’s CHARTS menu, click on the Setup Charts tab.
Next, Click on the Advanced Chart Management tab
An additional Chart Directory needs to be added;
a. click on the BROWSE button
b. In the line labeled Drives, use the down arrow to choose the CD drive c. Double click the PROGRAM FILES folder d. Double click the DIGITAL OCEAN folder e. Double click the particular region folder (i.e. P1*) f. Double click the CA_CHTS folder g. click OK h. click ADD
For this example the final directory path would read as follows:
D:\program files\digital ocean\p1*\ca_chts
Click CHANGE CD/REFRESH CHART LIST and the charts will now be available.
* Note: this portion (P1) will change to correspond with the regional coverage they are using, for example, Lake Huron CD is NW02, Newfoundland West is ATLD08, these regional codes are on the CD case, as well as on the CD.
