TOPIC
When Maptech has trouble printing, the most common cause/cure is the printer drivers
DISCUSSION
Occaisionally we receive reports of difficulty with printing maps or charts. Most printing difficulties are the result of the printer driver (the software that runs the printer). In most cases the printer manufacturer creates the printer driver. In some cases, a third party, such as the computer manufacturer or Microsoft provides the driver. In any event, it is their responsibility to ensure that the driver supports all of the various functions in the specification for printing in Microsoft Windows. When there is a function in the driver that does not meet these specifications, it is said to have a "bug in the driver." Should you experience any difficulties with your printer, chances are you've encountered a "bug in the printer driver". Fortunately, printer manufactures are constantly revising their drivers, adding new features and correcting these bugs as they are identified. Most vendors provide updated drivers free of charge on their web site. These driver releases are put out because they correct known issues and incompatibilities that may arrise. These updates can be likened to getting an oil change or a tune up in a vehicle. Even though the vehicle seems to be operating fine, doing this maintenance ensures that all will work well. |
