It seems that the ongoing product for maptech is the Navigator Pro, which has some advanced features that the Capn does not. Both of these products sell for about the same price. I bought my version of the Capn at a boat show (Philadelphia, I think) where it was being demo'd. While I am generally satisfied with the Capn, I am concerned that it is a 'dead end' product. Any migration path to upgrade from Capn to Navigator Pro? Seems like I should not have to pay full price for Navigator since I have already invested in Capn. If there is, I would need to evaluate moving to the Navigator product more carefully. Thanks
There is no upgrade path from Capn to Chart Navigator Pro. The features in both programs are comparable. We plan to continue developing and making improvements to the Capn. Depending on what version of the Capn you own, you may not have the latest features. The latest version available is 8.3.20a. An upgrade to this version including a DVD set containing charts for the entire U.S. coastline and some river coverage is available for $149.95.
As I understand it, SS7 charts cannot be read by the Capn but are converted in real time by Navigaror Pro. If there is an upgrade to 8.3.20a why can't it be downloaded just like the 20a version was? I don't want to spend $150 just to upgrade to the next version. However, that might be attractive if I could get a listing of the chart changes in the US coastline so I could see the differences.
