Support Home > Offshore Navigator (& Lite) & Chart Navigator (Viewer) > Technical Documents > Transferring Routes from Chart Navigator Pro to Pocket Navigator, Terrain Navigator, and other Maptech applications.
To share routes between Maptech applications, we recommend the .RXF format. These files can be read and written by all products in our suite of navigation solutions. The process involves three steps: create the route, export the route, and import the route.
To Transfer a Route from Chart Navigator Pro to another Maptech application:
Step 1: Create the Route
Using the tools within Chart Navigator Pro, create the route(s) you wish to export.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to give each route an unique name. By default, Chart Navigator Pro does not automatically name its routes. To name the route, click on a route segment (not a waypoint) as it appears on the chart. Then, in the Properties Window, type a Name where indicated.
Step 2: Export the Route from Chart Navigator Pro
From the File Menu in Chart Navigator Pro, choose Export. A list of all the routes available for export will appear. Select the Route(s) you wish to export and press Next.
On the following screen, pick a location where you wish to save the exported routes. This could be 'My Documents', 'Desktop', or any other location you wish. Regardless of where the file is saved, be sure to remember the location you have chosen. For File Name, give the route file a name. Finally, for Save as type, choose Maptech RXF (Routes) File and press Save.
Step 3: Import the Route into another Maptech product
Open the Maptech product you wish to import the routes into (such as Terrain Navigator or Pocket Navigator Desktop.)
To import into Terrain Navigator, choose Import, Routes from the File menu. In the screen that appears, Look in the folder that you specified in Step 2. Change Files of type to Route Export File (*.RXF) and press Open.
To import into Pocket Navigator Desktop, choose Import from the Overlay menu. In the screen that appears, Look in the folder that you specified in Step 2. Change Files of type to Maptech Terrain Files (*.mxf, rxf, txf) and press Open.
(Other applications will import .RXF files in a similar fashion.)
When the import process is completed, the Route will now be transferred.
I get an error when I import the route or it does not appear. What is going wrong?
Normally, this indicates that the route was not named in Chart Navigator Pro when it was created. Be sure that the route is named (click on a route segment as it appears on the chart and change the Name under Properties) and then Export the route again.
