"Paper Charts are a mainstay of the prudent boater's kit. Despite highly accurate, highly reliable modern electronics, paper charts can't be beat for quick reference, viewing a large area in detail, or when electronic gizmos go ker-blooey.
For Boating's Scout 242 Abaco project boat, I chose Maptech's Waterproof Flip and Fold Chart to back up the electronics installed at the helm. Printed on waterproof stock, they stood up to salt air and a few errant blasts from the hose. A manageable 24"-by-36" when open, I can fold them as small as 6"-by-12" and simply flop them over as I progress along a course.
I also like their brighter colors, compared to NOS charts, and that primary and secondary lights, major buoys, wrecks, reefs, and launch ramp locations are highlighted and labeled with lat/lon coordinates for quick plotting. These extras, combined with the charts' durability, earn them my endorsement."
